Good Friday - it is my favourite day of the year. Sure, you can't have Good Friday without Easter Sunday but its about the meaning of Good Friday that has captivated my heart, mind and soul.

This blog is all about how I have learned along my journey with God, from the triumphs and the mistakes, and there are likely more of the latter than the former. Good Friday is the perfect picture of why I choose to talk about those mistakes - because it gives me every opportunity to boast of the only thing I should boast about; my amazing God!

Think for a minute of what you would consider your greatest mistake...

Now try imagining that it never happened. I know that can be a challenge and by no means can I even imagine that, as much as I wish and pray that I can. That is the picture of the power of Jesus sacrifice on the cross on Good Friday. He covered it all, He made you new, He erased your greatest mistake - and for us that is an unimaginable thing to do but He was able to do that. Our God loves us and wants a relationship with us so much that He sent his Son to pay the price for mistakes we would make thousands of years in the future that violate some of the most fundamental laws of the Bible. It is an unfathomable price that Jesus paid and that is what brings me to tears each Good Friday. It is not because I forget the other 364/365 days of the year, but it is because the weight of the unmatchable love and sacrifice that was made for us all, just overwhelms that much more on Good Friday.

This morning, as my Good Friday looked a little different due to isolation for COVID-19 , I stood in the room we were watching our online service and as the song "In Christ Alone" was played the awe took over, I was speechless. I have always loved that song, I sing it a lot, at church and hymn sing and when I just want to praise God for all He has done - today it wasn't a song of praise. Today it was a song of thanks, and although I so enjoy belting it out, I could not contain tears as I basked in those deep moments of thanks.

I understand that we are currently in a time where it might feel hard to be thankful, but I encourage you to take those moments of reflection and thank God for the amazing act of love He shared with His people on Good Friday. He is a God of whom to boast. Pray. Praise. Cry. Read Matthew 27 and have a good Good Friday.
